      Großglockner – Austria’s highest mountain

      The Großglockner – it’s the highest mountain in Austria and certainly the most beautiful too! The dream of every mountain enthusiast is once in a lifetime to stand next to the magnificent, gold adorned summit-cross.

      Starting place: Glockner House (2,121 m) on the Großglockner High Alpine Road.
      Walking time: 2 days
      Summit height: 3,798 m
      Altitude difference: about 1,800 m
      Degree of difficulty: *****
      Special features: long, steep, exposed. A perfect head for heights, ability to walk securely with crampons, and to master rock-face passages of degree of difficulty II, as well as an excellent physical condition are all absolutely essential.
      Suitability for families: only for adolescents with mountain experience from the age of about 15
      Best season: July - September
      Refreshments/meals: Salm hut; overnight stay at the
      Erzherzog Johann hut
